Marine and land damages
We work with care, extensive experience and proven reliability for maritime, land and intermodal shipments, and have a comprehensive understanding of the commodity and regulatory sectors.
We provide analysis and management of loads/damages during all phases of transport, an area in which we are highly specialized.
Bulk cargo
We provide qualified assistance during all phases of transport for bulk loads, such as:
- Food products
- Fertilizers
- Chemical products
- Feed
We evaluate things such as damage from wetting, contamination by chemical or exogenous agents and weight losses.
Containers
Survey reports for container bodies are essential to prevent or identify the origins of damage.
The main assessments we carry out include the following:
- Verification of oxidation
- Deformation checks
- General conditions
- Gasket seals
- Integrity of rods and door stop handles
- Light tests
- Cargo Safe Ultrasonic Container Tight Tests
Boarding and disembarkation checks
Pre- and post-boarding checks are of fundamental importance in maritime transport for any goods.
This refers to:
- Loss prevention
- Checks and consultations for stowage
- Checks and consultations for lashing
- Assistance for heavy lifts
Thanks to our membership in the surveyor circuit, IM&CS Network Ltd can intervene at any national and main global port.
Pleasure crafts and boats
S&P Cambiaso boasts many years of international experience in the field of shipbuilding and pleasure boating.
In particular, we intervene in the event of:
- Breakdowns and damages: body and machine survey assessments in the event of breakdowns and/or collisions
- Evaluation inspections - condition surveys: survey assessments on the general conditions of the structures with a relative estimate of the commercial value of the vessel. In these cases, the accuracy of the survey assessment makes it possible to highlight any defects prior to the insurance coverage, in combination with structural checks that identify processes of osmosis, delamination, effects of galvanic currents on the transmission components, etc.
- Engines and equipment: these are analyses of equipment failures, in particular the engine system, using non-destructive tests that are carried out in affiliated laboratories.
Repair supervision: in these cases, and/or in the case of refitting, we intervene directly on site on behalf of the Shipowner.
Food, fruit and vegetables and perishable goods
We intervene in the event of damages and/or incidents that occur across the entire agri-food sector.
Damages to fruit and vegetables
We intervene to establish the causes and we specify whether they are:
- Plant pathologies
- Pest attacks
- Etiological agents of an environmental nature
Damages to agri-food industry products
In the event of damages to food processing products, we establish the causes, extent and quantification of the damages.
Autonomously, or with the help of University Research and Analysis Institutes, we also evaluate the following:
- Compliance with hygiene and food safety regulations
- Any critical issues with respect to HACCP regulations
- The nature of fungal or bacterial species
- Evidence of chemical, physical or microbiological contamination
Thefts and robberies
Our established relationships with law firms, law enforcement agencies, and specialized security companies allow us to assist our customers in the event of:
- Thefts
- Robberies
- Misappropriation
- Negligent entrustment
- Scams
We usually operate on two distinct fronts:
Documentary analysis:
Thorough analysis of documentation, in particular the following:
- Sales contracts
- Invoices
- Bank transactions
- Production cost sheets
- Chamber of commerce company registration records
- Traceability of stolen vehicle plates
- Equity analysis
Technical analysis:
- Verifications of alarm systems and/or anti-theft structures
- Study of satellite traces
- Surveys of vehicles and locking systems that have been tampered with
- Feedback on the territory
- Correspondence of the safety systems with the requirements of the insurance policy
Fires
We intervene on two important fronts:
Assessment of the claim:
- The quantity of the goods involved
- The actual value of the load
- The causes of the fire
- The suitability of the fire prevention and safety systems
Identification of the causes:
- The responsibilities of each subject involved
- The structural and operational requirements required by the policy
- The factors that triggered the fire
Loss prevention
The importance of loss prevention is evident if we consider how it can often prevent future damages, even of significant proportions, by intervening with the necessary controls/corrective actions.
These types of preventive inspections and/or risk analyses are based on specific regulations, but, above all, on experience acquired in the field.
S&P Cambiaso's surveyors have extensive experience in this sector that has enabled numerous customers to not only prevent damages and incidents, but also to protect themselves in the event of recourse.
Our interventions include the following:
- Assessment of the suitability of packaging
- Verification of lashing
- Controls of the storage areas
- Indications for handling loads
- Specific instructions to be provided to carriers
- Evaluation of distribution processes
- Analysis of the structural conditions of the containers
These checks must be carried out before the transport, or better, before securing the load.
LOSS PREVENTION refers to preventive actions aimed at eliminating or containing any damages.
Machinery and equipment
For this type of damage, we assess both individual machines and entire production lines, offering the following:
- Risk analysis
- Packing/lashing calculations
- Damage checks
- Estimates on components used
We monitor the repair phases by analyzing the final balances.
Steel products
The inspections performed by surveyors take place during the two critical phases of loading and unloading of wire rods, coils, sheets, packs of sheets, pipes and all other steel products.
We collaborate with leading international traders and numerous Italian and foreign steel mills, interfacing with the Production and Quality departments, to identify any anomalies that may be found on the steel, and determine whether they are production defects or damage attributable to transport.
Frozen products
In the case of damages to refrigerated products, we intervene by:
- Determining of the type of damage
- Establishing the causes of the damage
- Verifying the trends for the cold chain
- Differentiating between qualitative and transport problems
- Analyzing the thermograph traces
- Carrying out chemical/physical/microbiological analyses
- Organizing best effort sales - salvage sales
In the event of refrigeration system breakdowns, we also get advice from qualified refrigeration technicians.
Moves and household goods
Well-known movers rely on us for:
- Inspections of household goods before the move
- Interventions for incidents
- Estimates and evaluations of repairs
- Packing consultations
For WORKS OF ART and ANTIQUE FURNITURE, we perform the following:
- Estimates for the stipulation of insurance contracts
- Survey reports for damages incurred during loans for shows and art exhibitions
- Survey reports in the event of theft, fire or vandalism
- Inspections for damages incurred during handling
We also collaborate with specialized consultants and art historians and have special relationships with major auction houses, such as Sotheby's and Christie's.
Best effort sales and recoveries
To minimize damage, we work with recovery companies to carry out salvage sales to get the best recovery for the goods affected by the damage.
These interventions affect the extent of the damage, reducing it considerably and allowing for partial recovery of loads that have been "abandoned" by the receiver.
